Have you upgraded to Windows 10? If not, this is your last chance for the free upgrade. It will only be available for a free upgrade for nine more days.
July 29 is the last day you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. if you want to upgrade later, you’ll need to pay for the software. The retail price will be $119 for Windows Home, and $199 for Windows Pro.
Want to force the update? Either click the Windows 10 upgrade icon in your system tray, or visit Microsoft’s Windows 10 Upgrade page to initiate the download.
If you have an aging machine, you might want to skip the update. We’ve seen issues with older video cards and network adapters. You’ll also want to temporarily uninstall your anti-virus software… we’ve run into some issue with upgrading when ESET anti-virus software is running during the update. You can reinstall it after the upgrade.
If you have specialty business software that needs a specific version of Windows to run, you might want to skip the upgrade until you’ve upgraded your other software. Check with your software manufacturer to make sure that it’s compatible. Quickbooks is one good example… if you’re running an old version, it might not work at all with Windows 10.
What if I hate it?
If you upgrade to Windows 10 and decide you hate it and want to go back, you have 30 days to revert to your previous operating system. Rollbacks are fairly simple, and we’ve never had any issues other than needing to reinstall a driver or piece of software. Make a backup before you upgrade just to be safe.
